Petsyl™ 2-in-1 Dog Nail Grinder & Trimmer — Quiet, Rechargeable Electric Nail File

$34.00

Stress-free nail trims at home.

The Petsyl 2-in-1 Dog Nail Grinder & Trimmer gently files nails smooth with a quiet motor that's far less likely to spook a nervous dog or cat — so you can stop dreading the clippers and stop paying a groomer for a five-minute job.

Why grinding beats clipping

Clippers cut blind. Hit the quick — the blood vessel inside the nail — and it hurts, it bleeds, and your dog remembers it for years. A grinder removes a little at a time, so you can see exactly where you are and stop before you get close. It also leaves a smooth edge instead of a sharp one, which means no more scratched floors, furniture or forearms.

Why pet parents choose it

  • 🔇 Quiet motor — noise is what frightens most dogs, and this is a low-noise design rather than a silent one.
  • 🎯 Three grinding ports — sized for small, medium and large nails.
  • 🔋 Rechargeable — USB charging, cordless in use.
  • Smooth finish — no sharp edges left behind.
  • 🐕🐈 Dogs and cats — gentle enough for both.
  • 💰 Pays for itself — roughly the cost of two groomer visits, based on typical NZ and AU grooming prices.

How to introduce it (this is the part that matters)

  1. Let your dog sniff it switched off for a day or two.
  2. Turn it on nearby without touching them. Treat. Repeat.
  3. Touch it briefly to one nail. Treat. Stop there.
  4. Build up to one paw per session — you don't have to do all four in one go.

Rushed introductions are the single reason these end up in a drawer. Ten patient minutes over a few days and you'll have a dog that tolerates trims for the rest of their life.

Honest expectations — what to know before you buy

  • It's quiet, not silent. There's a low motor hum and light vibration. Sound-sensitive dogs still need the gradual introduction above.
  • It's slower than clippers. That's the point — you remove a little at a time so you can stop before the quick. Expect a few minutes per paw, not seconds.
  • It makes nail dust. Grinding produces fine powder. Do it somewhere easy to wipe down, and away from anyone with respiratory sensitivity.
  • The grinding stone wears down with use and is a consumable part on any grinder, including this one.
  • Badly overgrown nails need a vet. If the quick has grown out with the nail, or a nail is split, curled into the pad, or bleeding, book a vet rather than starting at home.
  • Not a substitute for veterinary care. This is a grooming tool.

Frequently asked questions

Will it scare my dog?

The low-noise motor is exactly why this model exists — noise and vibration are what dogs object to. Follow the introduction steps above and most dogs accept it within a few sessions. Some genuinely sound-sensitive dogs never will.

How often should I trim?

Every 2–4 weeks for most dogs. If you can hear nails clicking on hard floors, they're too long.

Can I hurt my dog with it?

It's much harder to than with clippers, because you remove a little at a time and can stop the moment you see the quick approaching. Grind in short bursts, check often, and keep sessions short so the nail doesn't heat up.

Does it work on thick nails?

Yes — the largest port and the grinding stone handle large-breed nails. Thick nails simply take a little longer.

How long does the battery last?

A full charge covers multiple sessions. Charge over USB from any phone charger or laptop.

Can I use it on my cat?

Yes, gently and in short bursts. Cats' nails are much finer, so it takes very little.

How long does delivery take?

Orders are processed within 3 business days, then 6–12 business days in transit — 9–15 business days in total for tracked delivery across New Zealand and Australia. You'll get a tracking number as soon as it ships.

What if it isn't right for us?

You have 30 days. If it's unused and in its original packaging, we'll take it back — see our Returns & Refund Policy.
