What's in the box & what it needs

Honest expectations — what to know before you buy

• Clumping litter only. The sifting mechanism separates solid clumps from clean litter. Crystal, silica, pellet and non-clumping litters will not sift properly. This is the single most common cause of disappointment with any automatic box, including this one.
• Your cat needs a transition period. Cats are territorial about where they toilet. Put it where the old tray was, leave the old tray beside it for a week or two, and use the litter your cat already knows. Some cats take to it in a day; some take a fortnight; a small minority never accept an automatic box at all.
• It reduces scooping, not all maintenance. You still empty the sealed waste drawer every few days, top up litter, and give the unit a full clean periodically.
• Not for kittens under about 6 months, or for cats recovering from surgery — the safety sensor is calibrated for adult-cat weight.
• It makes a noise. A low motor hum for under a minute per cycle. Most cats stop reacting within a few days, but it isn't silent.
• Usage tracking is a convenience, not a diagnosis. It can show you that something has changed. Only your vet can tell you why.
