Ranges are the manufacturer's maximum in open air with clear line of sight; walls, fences and weather reduce them. If the barking is coming from outside — a neighbour's dog, the far end of a section, over a fence — you need the Pro. The 3m Lite is for training your own dog in the same room. Most range complaints in this category come from buying the short-range model for an outdoor problem.
Honest expectations — please read before you buy
- It is an interrupter, not a mute button. The tone breaks the barking; you reward the silence. Used that way, most owners report improvement within one to two weeks. Used alone with no reinforcement, results fade.
- It does not work on every dog. Older dogs with hearing loss, some very driven or highly aroused dogs, and a minority of individuals respond weakly or not at all. We would rather say so here than have you find out after paying.
- Solid barriers block it. Ultrasonic sound needs a clear path. Straight at a solid timber fence or a brick wall, it will not get through — aim over or around.
- It won't fix the cause. Barking driven by separation anxiety, pain or fear needs the underlying problem addressed, usually with a vet or a qualified trainer. An interrupter won't resolve it and may add stress to an already anxious dog.
- Some people can hear it. Hearing at these frequencies declines with age, so most adults can't — but children and teenagers often can, and so can other dogs and some cats in range.

Is this cruel? Does it hurt my dog?
No. It produces a high-frequency sound — nothing more. There's no electric shock, no spray, no vibration, and nothing worn by the dog. It's the same principle as a dog whistle, which is why it's considered a humane training aid. Dogs find the tone annoying rather than painful; that's how it interrupts them.
Will it affect my other pets?
Other dogs in range will hear it. Cats may notice it and generally ignore it. It won't reach dogs indoors if you're using it outdoors, or through solid walls.
Can I use it on a neighbour's dog?
Yes, and it's the most common reason people buy the Pro. It needs line of sight — the tone doesn't travel through solid fences or walls well, so aim over or around them. Please also check your local council's rules on nuisance barking; a conversation with the neighbour usually gets further than a device alone.
Will I be able to hear it?
Most adults can't — hearing at those frequencies declines with age. Some children and teenagers can hear a faint sound.
How quickly does it work?
The interruption is immediate when the dog can hear it. Lasting behaviour change takes one to two weeks of consistent use paired with rewarding your dog when they stop — and doesn't happen for every dog.
Does it work through a fence?
Poorly through solid barriers. Ultrasonic sound needs a clear path — over a fence or through a gap works far better than straight at solid timber.
